Project - Heron Wharf (Poplar Riverside Phase 1), London, E14

Background

Set against the gentle flow of the River Lea, this thoughtfully planned neighbourhood blends the tranquillity of green open spaces with the dynamism of city living, just minutes from Canary Wharf and Central London.

Poplar Riverside, formerly known as the Leven Road Gasworks development, will provide up to 2,800 new homes. Phase 1 comprises of 643 homes. This project is a multi-use scheme providing 219 new affordable homes, 123 will be for affordable rent and 96 will be shared ownership properties. The units vary from studio to 3 bed apartments and are located within a few minutes of Canary Wharf.

Brief

Number of Units – 2800 windows and doors.

Internorm were tasked with providing a premium yet cost-effective solution for this project. Internorm’s triple glazed, high performance solution of 2800 units included windows and doors as well as large sliding doors. A prerequisite for the windows was that they needed to be tilt and turn. They not only had to provide outstanding thermal and acoustic performance, but security and low maintenance were also a deciding factor in the decision-making process.

Buying Drivers

Our client wanted to achieve a modern look with a high-quality finish and minimal future maintenance. In addition, they insisted on two things: tilt and turn windows and high- performance sliding doors. With these requirements the obvious choices were the KF 410 tilt & turn windows, with u-values of up to 0.62 W/(m²K), and sound reduction of 47dB, and the KS 430 sliding door with its incredibly light touch lift and slide system. Both the windows and lift & slide doors are made of hard-wearing, easy to maintain uPVC-Aluminium. The Internorm systems exceeded expectation. Internorm’s customer service and account management were key in helping secure the business. Internorm’s ability to deliver to site, as they were called down, was also a significant factor, negating the need for excessive storage on site.
