Background
A brand new concept – Luxury Co-Living, has been developed in leafy Harrow on the Hill. Akin to having all the indulgences of a 4-Star hotel seamlessly integrated into residents’ everyday lives, Diff_Rent gives a unique experience for modern living, with residents being able to step out of their fully equipped modern apartments into a world where well-being and leisure are prioritised.
Brief
The client on this infill-plot project was very clear about their requirements for this project. They needed a window that would fulfil a variety of very high performance criteria in a single solution and meet their tight budgetary requirements. Acoustic performance was top of their list, being right on top of the main railway line through Harrow, adjacent to the busy station, and with a main arterial road route on the other side of the building. Modern aesthetics and thermal performance were also extremely high on their list of needs. The project also called for a bespoke solution so that the windows would be fixed from a user perspective and openable for cleaning and maintenance only due to Transport for London’s requirements with the close proximity to the railway line.
Buying Drivers
With these requirements in mind, the client and the main contractor were initially of the opinion that they would need a modern aluminium window externally on the building, and then secondary glazing 200mm inboard of this to meet the high acoustic rating of 47dB Rw. Internorm once again surpassed all expectations, delivering a single solution which could achieve the acoustic rating without the need for secondary glazing, and as a side benefit, using our 56mm triple glazed sealed unit, the client also received some of the very highest thermal performance on the market, at 0.69w/m2K Uw value. Turn locks and handle blanks solved the operability concerns, and Internorm, as usual, also won on their outstanding customer service, bringing a bespoke logistics solution to the project, using craneable steel stillages, which were packed at our facility in Essex and then delivered to site as required, negating the need to close the busy road, and therefore saving substantial additional costs to the client.
